Today, we finished our lapbooks quickly but efficiently in order to make it to the local library for Parachute Time. Does anything evoke as much energy and laughter as a simple, albeit colorful, handled circle? My girls and I travel the library circuit, attending an event on an average of three times per week. Storytime and craft, Gymboree mini-classes, Playtivity drumming circles, puppet shows...but nothing beats Parachute Time, with the possible exception of Pajama Time. (Note that Pajama Time mixes the excitement of going out in cozy pajamas with said handled circle).
We left Parachute Time, and the girls and I went to Goodwill to drop off many donations. We go through our closets and toyboxes monthly, donating to Goodwill anything we no longer are in need of. While it is cleansing for us, it is simultaneously benefitting to Goodwill in so many ways. We chose Goodwill specifically because they employ people with "special needs". I am not sure how I feel about this verbiage. "Special needs". Don't we all have those? Don't we all have needs that cannot be met in the same manner as they are met for others? I am a nurse by trade, and I spent years working in the field of the Developmentally Disabled, another widely accepted term for a very special and caring group of people. So, to walk into a store such as Goodwill and see them employed and taking their jobs so very seriously is a HUGE plus in my book! So, off to Goodwill we went.
My girls were so proud after the donations! Filled up with motherly pride myself, I treated them to lunch before heading home for naptime.
They are now asleep, likely dreaming of the parachute!
